Neely Roberts Photography Branding Session
Hey there friends! it has been a bit! As you may or may not know, I have transitioned my business to only focus on Personal Branding Photography and Graphic Design Education. When I made that shift it was a beginning of June before I attended the Creative at Heart Conference (if you haven’t read my recap blog post you can here) I felt it was the right move but I wasn’t 100%…I was like 95%. But after talking to everyone I discovered that I was really right and this is the right way to go!
With that being said, I’m so excited to share this personal branding session with you! Neely is a sweet friend of mine and i couldn’t have been more excited to capture her brand! At the start of the personal branding experience we finalize a date and then take about 30 minutes over Facetime or in person to talk about your brand and the stories you want to tell! For Neely we discovered quite a few things:
She LOVES vegan donuts and often shares on her social media about them
Her branding is all about blues! So of course we HAD to incorporate that!
She loves all types of flowers
She loves to read
She loves to hike with her husband and being outside
So from that we narrowed it down to see how we can incorporate as much of that as we could! We started in 12 South (surprise, surprise) not just because it’s such a cool space that goes with her brand BUT…..it has some of the best VEGAN donuts at Five Daughters. So of course our morning started with donuts. We shared donuts together, laughed and caught up on everything that has been going on in our lives.
This is exactly what I strive to do in each and ever session. I want my clients to feel, whether we are already friends or not, that we are old friends catching up. I want you to feel comfortable in front of the camera because if you don’t or you’re “faking it” it shows. As you can tell with Neely’s photos she felt perfectly comfortable as she showed all sides of her personality in front of the camera.
We then walked down the street and stopped along the way as we found places that fit with her brand or could be a really cool shot. Now, I could have stopped at ever beautiful mural that we found to take a picture but not ALL of them worked with her personality and branding in particular. So I was very choosy in what we shot in front of. For example there is the famous “I believe in Nashville” mural that is beautiful but doesn’t really go with Neely was going for. So we opted out and went further down the street to this wild flower mural which was just up her alley.
This branding session isn’t like any other portrait session. It obviously takes a lot more planning and thought before going into it. Of course we get those amazing vertical shots that would work on Instagram or for a bio but I also think about the “story telling images as well” Like in any story there is a main character; which is you. Then there are sub characters, which are in this case the “stock photo” type photos. For Neely is was the images of just the donuts, her books and her reading the book. It still tells the story without Neely necessarily in it. Why does this matter? Imagine going to a website and EVERY image was the same type of image where the person is smiling directly at the camera. Wouldn’t that feel jarring? Now imagine going to a website that has images that aren’t all the same but tell the same story. They have pieces that all go together. That’s what I do for you.
If you don’t believe me, take Neely’s word for it!
I share these sessions not only to show how these sessions work but to be inspired and hopefully encourage you to invest in your own personal branding session. Interested in booking? Click on the button to below to get started!
