Merry Christmas!!!! The day is here! Since the holidays are finally here, I thought I would share some of my favorite holiday traditions. Some of these have changed over the years and some have been a more recent addition but all in all they are great ways for my family and I to get together and enjoy the season with each other.

  1. baking cookies

For as long as I can remember my sister and I have always baked cookies with someone, whither it was one of our grandmas, cousins, aunts our even our mom! Baking is really big in my family and having that memory that I share with my sister always brings me joy. Lately, since my sister is a pastry chef, we have been baking cookies ourselves. My sister find some of the best recipes that get requests to remake every year. We’ve made sugar cookies that we decorate, peanut butter blossoms, gingerbread men, peppermint chocolate cookies and so much more! Last year, it was a two day event….according to my sister, that was a lot. It’s really fun to bake with her and my mom tends to jump in on the fun too! My dad is always the taste tester. ;)

  2. decorating the tree

Every year we usually put up our decorations and decorate the tree together on Black Friday. We are not much of Black Friday shoppers (even though we have tried and it’s not that much fun) so this has always been a fun tradition for us. As we unwrap all of our ornaments that have been stored since the previous year, we reminisce on where we got that particular ornament and the story behind it. They tend to be rerun stories but I still enjoy to hear them every year. My mom has a lot of photo ornaments of my sister and I over the years and it’s quite comical looking back on those years. I have a lot of great memories decorating the house, dancing to Christmas music and enjoying time with my family.

3. Wrapping Presents

Since my parents’ birthdays tend to land right after Christmas, my sister and I have often tag teamed to get gifts together. It usually helps so then we both aren’t struggling to figure out what to get them. Every year we have gone out the week before Thanksgiving to do our shopping, that way it’s out of the way and we can enjoy the rest of the holiday season. (And the deals tend to be the same if not better than Black Friday.) We then sneak all of our purchases inside the house to wrap together. This has always been a fun time to bond with my sister and we get to spend some much needed time together which we don’t get to do very often now a days. Even though I am farther away this year, we still were able to come up with some great gifts for our parents.
