My story. Why I started and where I am going

Hi there sweet friends! For those of you who have been around for a while you know my story pretty well. For those of you who don’t welcome! We will start from the beginning. I was born and raised in south-eastern Wisconsin with the love of cheese instilled in me from day one. :) I have always been a creative person, in my family on both sides I am referred to as the artist. I always was creating an art project or had a brilliant creative idea. I took honors arts classes all through high school but those classes were not where photography came into play for me. It started to come into play when I was a senior in high school. Like any other senior, I went and had my senior pictures taken. Thinking that it was be like any other photography studio experience I didn’t think much of it. It was excited to be showing my personality. And that it when I got let down. This particular studio had a rotation of photographers so I didn’t get the one that I vibed with before. This one was AWFUL. She wasn’t sure of herself, she kept saying “umm” and making take my glasses off which at the time was what I wore everyday. By the end of the session I was frustrated and disappointed. We looked back at the photos and all my dad could say was that it didn’t look like me. Needless to say I was embarrassed of those pictures. So much so that we didn’t use them for the yearbook. My mom took a picture of me on our driveway before a family wedding. This is not at all to make you feel bad about my experience, this story is what eventually inspired me to pursue this career!

Learn something new with year with Audible

Hey there friends! I don’t know about you but in this new year I’m inspired to learn. If you don’t already know, last year I focused my year on a single word which was “LEARN”. (If you didn’t know that make sure you follow me on Instagram!) This year however, my word of the year is “GROW” which relates a lot to learn. You need to learn in order to grow and I’m taking everything I have learned last year and I am implementing it into my business this year. However, that doesn’t mean I stop learning! I have always believed in being a forever learner. I have mentioned before in previous posts how much I love podcasts, YouTube videos and reading lots and LOTS of books! There are so many resources out there for you to dive into and learn. The possibilities are endless! Unfortunately for most of us, we are so busy that we really don’t have time to sit and read a book or even watch a YouTube video in some cases. That is why I’m so happy to share Audible with you! (#ad)

Since the holidays are around the corner and I will be traveling very soon I thought what better time to try! Blue Apron is great for couples or for the whole family! they have options per how many people you will be feeding. I choose the three meals a week but you can also go two to two. Before each week’s meals are delivered you get to choose what meals sound best to you! They everything is prepackaged and delivered right to your door. It honestly, worked out really well. They only things you need to have is the tools, salt, pepper and olive oil which is all what most people have anyway.

The struggles of imposter syndrome

I don’t know about you, but there were sometimes this year where I struggled with imposter syndrome. Who am I to pursue this career in running my own business? What makes me good enough to do this? I’m sure I’m not the only one with those thoughts. In fact I have talked to other entrepreneurs that felt the same way. The world has a way of making you feel that what you are doing isn’t worth a dime sometimes, and in no way is this blog post a way for me to complain about how hard it is to run a business. Yes, it is hard, but if things were easy everyone would be doing it. Everyone tends to have those moments of self doubt, I mean we are only human! It’s natural to feel that way. But you need to remember why you started this journey to begin with. What can you bring to the table other can’t?

Why you should have your pictures taken

Having your pictures taken may seem like something that we cringe at the thought of, but take a moment and hear me out. Think back to a company you really liked, a company that you really connected with. Why did you connect with it so much? It is probably because you can see yourself in the brand, in the owner, etc. Those companies usually have a face to their brand. It makes people connect with their company on another level. Which then leads to loyalty to the company. What I am getting at is being a small business owner is hard, you don’t want to be another faceless business. You want to be able to connect with your customers or clients so they will want to invest in what you want to offer.

Vanessa Jordan Photography Branding Packages

Hey there friends! I wanted to write this blog post because, if you haven't noticed two weeks ago I launched my branding packages in my shop and I want to talk a little bit about them! First off if you don't already know, I am a full-time graphic designer and I wanted to share that side of me with you. Something that has been brought to my attention, is how hard it is to create your own branding, create your logo, know what colors to use, know what’s going to look right and just know the tips and tricks that a graphic designer would know but, a small business owner really wouldn’t know. I created these branding packages in hopes that they will help you and they will give you kind of a jump start on your branding experience. So for example, one of the branding packages I have is called AB Modern. It's a very modern style, very minimalist, black and white and can really be used for pretty much any business.
